Family-owned Cibo Ristorante, in the heart of Gloucester road, epitomises this unique area of Bristol. Owners Dino and Mary Caidominici have been serving up warmth and Italian fare to the local community since 1988, with Cibo metamorphosing from traditional Italian deli to stylish contemporary eatery.
This year sees Cibo’s most adventurous menu to date, fusing traditional Italian flavours with ingredients from around the world: with the likes of Ostrich fillet pan-fried in rich wild mushroom sauce, and medallions of venison in juniper berry and port reduction. If you are after more traditionally Italian fare, Chef Girolamo Piptone serves up pizza and pasta with the same no-nonsense flair he brings to the whole Cibo menu.
Through a large smoked glass window into the kitchen, you can see all your food being freshly prepared. No smoke’n’mirrors or microwaves here, just fresh ingredients cooked with passion. With a fine choice of wines from locally sourced Italian vineyards, and daily changing desserts (make sure you check the boards) Cibo offers a relaxed and welcoming environment. For a less nocturnal experience, pop in and sample one of the finest Mediterranean buffets around – a great deal at &6 for two plates. Or try the freshly prepared soup of the day with your pizza, pasta, salad, seafood, cold meats and so much more. Top it all off with one of the things that Cibo has long been renowned for – an authentic Italian cappuccino.
